Let's face it. Sometimes we all need to pause and figure out what to do with our storage needs. In the case of a customer that @clementsoncarpentry worked with, their solution came in the form of a storage alcove. In a set of photos from Monday, August 7, the carpentry service shared the woman's built-in alcove units that were meant to add some seriously needed character to their room. And the difference is absolutely astounding. Rectangle Storage Basket

The before photo, while inoffensive enough, revealed a simple blank space between the window and a side wall. You could put just about anything there, likely appliances or a table or whatever made sense. But that's why the alcove units were such a good choice. They were the perfect candidate to change the way the room came together.
But first, what are alcove units, anyway? They're typically furniture or storage items that fit into a little nook or recessed area in a room. That means anything like bookshelves, seats, a desk, or a bed. They're designed to fit exactly into the nook so they can better use the space there, and it's more efficient. They can look different depending on the room and what the builder wants. For example, a bedroom might have a wardrobe or bed in the nook, a living room could have a bookshelf, and a kitchen might have extra storage.
And the end result is usually a bespoke cabinet with shelving that looks just like it should have been there from the very beginning. That's what you'll see in the "finished" photos, which reveal a fun, light olive bookshelf with plenty of items on four of its five shelves -- and a cabinet underneath it all. It looks absolutely fantastic, and will likely inspire you to get your own done. Keep it in mind the next time you have a bit of space that you're not sure how to repurpose!
