Frozen mustache shirts get approval from Chiefs coach Andy Reid

PARKVILLE, Mo. (KCTV/Gray News) - Shirts celebrating Kansas City Chiefs Coach Andy Reid’s frozen mustache were being printed as quickly as possible in hopes some fans could wear them to Sunday’s game.

Last Saturday’s frigid conditions at Arrowhead Stadium produced an iconic look for “Big Red,” one that Missouri company Ultimate Athletic Sportswear is immortalizing in the form of clothing, KCTV reports. Button Up

“Hopefully, his mustache freezes up because it seems to have a lucky charm,” said John Doole, the company’s owner. “[The shirts] have Coach Reid’s name, his signature, his slogan, and then, you have the frozen mustache.”

Doole has been in the T-shirt business for more than 30 years. He and his company got Reid’s official approval of the merchandise a couple of days ago and started printing shirts as early as they could – which turned out to be Friday morning.

“To my knowledge, this is the first shirt of this type of its kind, where he’s signed off on it, so this is a cool deal where the community can kind of back Coach Reid and have a little fun with his mustache,” Doole said.

The company hoped to have some shirts ready for Sunday’s Chiefs game against the Buffalo Bills. The Chiefs won that game 27-24 and will now advance to the AFC championship game, where fans will get another chance to wear their frozen mustache shirts.

There will be about 5,000 items in the frozen mustache collection, including hoodies and sweatshirts. All the items range between $17 to $40 and are exclusive to Hy-Vee locations across the Kansas City metro.
