A DIY guru has shown how she turns unexpected everyday items into stunning home decor.

Geneva Vanderzeil, from Brisbane, said 'literally anything' can be upcycled and has been 'reimagining' unlikely things like towels, bricks, bathmats and gin bottles to transform them into decor and furniture.

'Honestly one of my favourite things is to use unexpected materials to create something I love,' she said.

'It's just so fun to reimagine how you can use things and it's just all about looking at the shape and the material of something, rather than what it's being used for now.'

Geneva found a bamboo bathmat from Bunnings and used it to add texture to a coffee table she made.

To make the base of a 'sculptural' outdoor table, she used four plant pots from Bunnings in different shapes.

She stacked them up then rendered with gyprock and painted them white before attaching an old table top and called it one of her 'absolute favourite projects'.

'I headed to Bunnings to see what materials might spark some inspiration,' Geneva said in a blog post.

'I was able to find these bowl plant pots that I thought would work perfectly for this project. When stacked together they make the perfect ball.'

She also inserted a light bulb inside an old glass brick and added a wooden base to create a table lamp.

Instead of throwing out old soft drink bottles, Geneva cut them in half and stacked them around a floor lamp post to give it a very on-trend wavy makeover.

The DIYer painted some square grey brick a stunning terracotta colour and used them as the legs of a paver console table.

'Once again the Bunnings landscaping department came to my rescue with $1.79 cement pavers,' she said.

'I decided to stick together three pavers to create one large cube. I felt like this added a bit more detail and dimension to the design.'

She stacked the bricks in alternating directions three at a time and placed a piece of timber on top which she painted the same orange colour.

'It might seem daunting to cut a mirror but it's actually so much easier than you think it will be,' she said.

Geneva shared the DIY hack in a video posted to Instagram impressing and delighting her 571,000 followers.
